The owners of a 2008 Jeep Compass contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to report their vehicle was stolen.  The LASD Industry verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jeep.

Only 59 minutes later officers from the Ontario Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Jeep with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the officers tracked the Jeep to a mobile home park where they found it parked and unoccupied.  The officers set up surveillance of the Jeep in hopes the suspect would return.

Suspects Arrested

A short time later the officers watched a suspect exit the mobile home the Jeep was parked in front of and approach the Jeep. The subject used a remote to unlock the Jeep as the officers saw the headlights of the Jeep flash. Before the suspect could enter the Jeep the officers approached.  The suspect walked away but was detained by officers.  The officers found a second suspect inside the mobile home.  The officers were able to locate witnesses in the area that placed both suspects inside the Jeep.  The officers found personal items belonging to the owner of the Jeep inside the mobile home.  Both suspects were arrested and the Jeep was recovered.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Jeep Compass in August 2008 at La Brea Motors Chrysler Jeep in Los Angeles, California.
