The owner of a 1997 Nissan Maxima contacted the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen.  The owner advised the Nissan had been taken from the public parking lot of the Fruitvale Station in Oakland.

The BART PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan Maxima.

A short time later, officers from the Oakland Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan Maxima with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) which are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the officers tracked the stolen Nissan to the area of 7th Avenue and E 24th Street where they found the vehicle unoccupied. The officers advised that since the theft of the Nissan it had been involved in several robberies throughout the city.  The suspects were described by the robbery victims as being juveniles, approximately 12-13 years old.

The Nissan was recovered and will be processed by an Oakland PD Evidence Technician for latent evidence prior to being released to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Maxima in August 2000 for a prior commercial customer.
