The owners of a 2003 Toyota Tacoma contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Southwest Division to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Tacoma.

A short while later officers from the LAPD Newton Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the officers tracked the Toyota to the area of 61st St and Broadway. As they tracked the signal, they noted a matching Toyota Tacoma parked in an alley.  As they neared to get a better view, the vehicle exited a walk way and turned on to 61st St heading towards Main St.  The officers confirmed that this was in-fact the stolen Toyota containing one male driver and two other passengers.  Officers conducted a high risk traffic stop and the suspects held until back up arrived. The driver was taken into custody and two female occupants detained.  A search of the Toyota netted in finding what appeared to be a “shaved key” commonly used when taking stolen vehicles.  The two females were questioned as witnesses and later released.  The suspect was taken to the Newton Division and booked for the theft of the Toyota.  The Toyota was later released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Tacoma in November 2002 at Toyota Central, Los Angeles, California.
