The owner of a 2005 Toyota Prius reported to the Shelby Police Department that her vehicle had been stolen. The Shelby PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

After the Prius was entered as stolen, pilots from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Aviation Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC’s) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the pilots directed the officers on the ground, who tracked the Toyota to a residence.

The officers located the Toyota and detained two subjects that were occupying the vehicle.  After the preliminary investigation, the person sitting in the driver’s seat of the Toyota was arrested for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.  It was also determined that he was wanted on arrest warrants for Failure to Appear in court for Eluding the Police, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and a City Ordinance Violation from an unrelated incident.  The Toyota was towed by the on call wrecker service to be returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Prius in November 2004 at Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, Maryland
