The owner of a 2006 Toyota 4Runner stopped at friend’s residence to pick up paperwork.  The owner left the Toyota running as she spoke to her friend on the front porch and within view of the Toyota.  As they were speaking an unknown person entered the Toyota and drove away.  The owner did not see the suspect.  The owner contacted the Anaheim Police Department to report her vehicle was stolen.  The Anaheim PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later officers from the Anaheim PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to an alley in the city of Anaheim. As the officers drove up to the stolen Toyota they saw a female standing inside the open driver door looking into the Toyota.  The officers also saw another female seated in the front passenger seat.  The officers detained both suspects.  Inside the Toyota the officers located a backpack which contained several tools.  One of the tools was a glass breaking device.  The types of tools indicated they were burglary tools. The officers questioned both suspects.  The female standing at the driver door initially claimed she did not know the Toyota was stolen.  She later admitted to taking the Toyota when she found it running with no one in it.  When this suspect was searched she was found to be possession of several identification cards and banking cards which did not belong to her. The second female suspect was out on bail for another crime and had a black glove and screwdriver in her possession.  Both suspects were arrested and the undamaged Toyota was returned to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota 4Runner in July 2006 at Claremont Toyota in California.
