The owners of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe contacted the Huntington Park Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen.  The Huntington Park PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Only four minutes later deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Century station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the deputies located the Chevrolet as it was exiting a shopping center in the county area of Los Angeles.  The deputies pulled behind the stolen Chevrolet and were able to safely stop the vehicle.  The deputies detained the driver and two passengers.  The deputies saw that the steering column was damaged and there was a shaved key in the ignition.  This method of stealing cars was familiar to the deputies.  The driver told the deputies he got the Chevrolet from a friend in Huntington Park but knew the Chevrolet was stolen.  The deputies asked the front passenger if she knew the Chevrolet was stolen and she responded, “I’m not going to (BS) you deputy, I knew it was stolen.”  The front passenger also admitted to having a small amount of methamphetamine in her backpack.  The deputies found the methamphetamine along with a “meth” pipe.  The rear passenger was found to have a warrant for his arrest.  All three subjects were arrested and the Chevrolet was recovered.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Tahoe in February 2008 at Car Max in Buena Park, California.
