The owners of a 2010 Toyota Highlander contacted the Philadelphia Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen in the area of their residence in Northeast Philadelphia.  The Police Radio dispatched a uniformed officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the vehicle owner and then surveyed the area the Toyota. When the Toyota could not be located, the assigned officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and arranged for the vehicle information to be entered into state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later officers assigned to the Philadelphia PD 35th District were on routine patrol in the northwest section of Philadelphia. The officers were assigned to a marked police vehicle equipped with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the signal to the area of Germantown Avenue.  The officers observed an occupied vehicle matching the description of the stolen Toyota. The officers drove up to the vehicle and the PTC pointed directly at same. The officers signaled the driver with lights and siren to pull to curb and the driver of the Toyota complied with the request and stopped without incident. The officers subsequently checked the vehicle identification number on the vehicle and discovered that this was in fact the Toyota stolen earlier. The driver of the Toyota was placed under arrest and a search of his person disclosed four cylinders in the perpetrator’s pants pocket. These cylinders were found to contain a green leafy substance that was suspected of being marijuana. The perpetrator was charged with violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code related to theft and possession of a controlled substance. The Toyota was confiscated for safekeeping and the owner was notified.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2010 Toyota Highlander in June 2010 at Champion Toyota in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
