The owner of a 2005 Toyota Rav4 parked the vehicle in front of the laundromat so that they could bring their dirty clothes inside to wash. The owner left the keys in the ignition with the motor running and walked inside with a laundry basket full of clothes. When they returned to where they left their SUV they discovered it missing. The owner contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report their vehicle stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Shortly thereafter, while on routine patrol, a Palm Beach County SO K-9 deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Rav4 on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC).  Eagle 2 (PBSO helicopter) responded to the area as well. The deputy began tracking the stolen Toyota by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the sport utility vehicle in the 1200 block of Banyan Canal Drive, West Palm Beach.  Eagle 2 observed several subjects around the Toyota and then leave in another car. The PBSO helicopter followed the other car until the deputies were able to perform a “felony stop” on it. The K-9 deputy and his partner approached the vehicle and called out the subject of the vehicle. The suspects were taken into custody without incident. The SUV was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2005 Toyota Rav4 in September 2005 at Palm Beach Toyota in West Palm Beach, Florida.
