The owner of a 2011 Toyota Corolla drove their car to the mall and parked it in the parking lot. After doing their business, they returned to where they had parked their Toyota and discovered it missing. The owner contacted the Hialeah Police Department to report their Toyota stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers. A search of the tow log and of the mall parking lot provided negative results.

Later that evening, while on routine patrol, a Miami-Dade Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Corolla on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The officer began tracking the stolen Corolla by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the 4-door sedan inside of a yard in Hialeah. As the Corolla was now in Hialeah PD’s jurisdiction, they responded to the yard.  The Corolla was recovered and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2011 Toyota Corolla in December 2011 at Kendall Toyota in Miami, Florida.
