The owner of a 2008 Nissan Versa contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen when a couple of male suspects approached with a handgun and demanded the vehicle.  One of the suspects hit the owner in the head with the pistol and took his phone and Nissan.

The Phoenix PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

Four minutes later, detectives from the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the auto theft detectives tracked the Nissan to the area of 27th Avenue and Camelback Road in Phoenix.

The auto theft detectives located the stolen Nissan in the parking lot of a strip mall.  Detectives observed two male suspects with the Nissan and began surveillance.   Two males were observed getting into the Nissan and driving from the strip mall to a nearby apartment complex.  The suspects parked the Nissan and were observed doing something with a Ford F-150 pickup in the parking lot.  The suspects then returned to the Nissan and drove from the parking lot.  With the assistance of the Phoenix PD’s air unit and marked patrol units, a high risk vehicle stop was conducted.  Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.   Follow up investigation revealed that the Ford F-150 pickup was also reported as stolen by the owner to the Phoenix PD.  Both vehicles were recovered and processed for evidence.  The Nissan was returned to the owner at the scene in good condition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Versa in June 2008 at ABC Nissan in Phoenix, Arizona.
