The owners of a 2000 Dodge Caravan contacted the Cleveland Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their driveway overnight.

The Cleveland PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge.

A short while later troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the Dodge to residential area of Cleveland.  It appeared that the suspects had parked the Dodge there to “cool off.”

Surveillance was established for a short while and the stolen Dodge was eventually impounded.  The only damage was to the vehicle’s ignition.  Because of the quick recovery the suspects did not have enough time to strip it or use it to commit additional crimes.  This is the second time in the past six months that the Dodge was stolen, tracked and recovered.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Caravan in September 2000 at Northeast Auto Outlet in Gloucester City, New Jersey.
