A car dealership contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Van Nuys Division to report that their vehicle was stolen by an Armed Car Jack suspect. Apparently the sales person had driven to a storage lot to retrieve a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and was approached by a male suspect armed with a hand gun.  The sales person was beaten by the suspect and made to open the security gate.  The suspect drove away with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Officers responded, verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Minutes later the LAPD Air 16 flight officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the airship tracked the Jeep to Laurel Canyon and Moorpark Ave and located the vehicle.  Officers responded and arrested the suspect without further incident. The suspect was booked for “Armed” car jack, kidnapping, aggravated battery and false imprisonment. The undamaged Jeep was stored as evidence, processed and later released to the car dealership.

Note this Jeep was part of a Pre Install Program which protects dealerships and customers. The Jeep Grand Cherokee was dealer traded to the second dealership.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Jeep Grand Cherokee in December 2016 at Rydell Jeep Chrysler Ram in Van Nuys, California.
