LoJack® System Helps Baltimore City Police Department Recover Stolen Jeep Cherokee

The owner of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude contacted the Baltimore City Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen during an armed carjacking from the area of 100 W Lee Street in Baltimore City, Maryland. The Baltimore City PD Radio dispatched an officer from the 9th District to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the Jeep. When the officer was unable to locate the Jeep a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The officer then arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jeep.
A short while later, detectives from the Regional Auto Theft Team picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Jeep with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and helicopters. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the detectives tracked the Jeep and observed it being operated by a driver and four occupants. The Baltimore City PD aviation unit, “Foxtrot,” responded and tracked the Jeep from the air. As detectives followed the Jeep, positioning themselves to perform a vehicle stop without a pursuit, they followed the vehicle to the 900 block W Franklin Street. At this time, a felony vehicle stop was performed and all five occupants were arrested. The undamaged Jeep was then recovered by detectives.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude in December 2015 at Heritage Chrysler Jeep in Baltimore, Maryland.
