The owners of a Mercury Villager van contacted the Northglenn Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. A police officer verified the theft and had the vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine action on the part of law enforcement automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercury.
Just six-minutes later officers with the Thornton Police Department, Federal Heights PD and Adams County Sheriff’s Office were picking up the silent LoJack signal coming from the stolen Mercury with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.
Following the directional and audible cues from the PTCs, the Federal Heights PD officers tracked the Mercury to a residence in the 2300 block of West 92nd Avenue. There the Mercury was located and a suspect arrested.
The van was undamaged and was released on-scene to the very happy owners. The suspect was jailed for Motor Vehicle theft and other unrelated warrants.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercury Villager over 20-years ago in California at the request of a previous owner of the van.
