The owner of a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu reported an auto theft to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Department. The Greenville County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers. The entry automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Malibu.
Just minutes after the activation, a deputy of the Greenville County SD, who was off duty working a side job, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Malibu with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC’s) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputy tracked the Malibu to a motel parking lot. Further investigation determined that the Malibu was part of a domestic/civil dispute and no arrest was made.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Malibu in October 2002 at CarMax #7117 in Southlake Stockbridge, Georgia.
