- recovery stories
The owner of a 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer sport utility vehicle brought their vehicle into a Plantation repair shop to be fixed. While the SUV was in the possession of the repair shop, a subject walked into the shop requesting a quote for repairs on a vehicle. The subject was left alone in the office while the repair shop employee went to speak with another employee. After speaking again with the subject, the subject left the business. A few minutes later the repair shop employee discovered the SUV missing. The repair shop employee noted that subject was the only customer to have walked into the business prior to the incident. It should be noted that the keys to the Chevrolet within the business are located on the wall, unsecured, in the front office where the subject was left alone. The repair shop employee contacted the Plantation Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.
Immediately upon activation, while on routine patrol, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Trail Blazer on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The deputy began tracking the stolen Trail Blazer by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the sport utility vehicle abandoned in the 2900 block of NW 19th Street. The SUV was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer in July 2005 at City County Credit Union in Margate, Florida.
