The owners of a 1991 Honda Civic contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Civic.
A short while later, the LAPD Air-3 flight officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda Civic in the area of Main St and Adams alerting ground units from the Newton Division. They further tracked and observed the Honda eastbound on Washington Blvd approaching Central Ave. Officers from the Newton Division who were working crime suppression in the division were eastbound Washington and caught up to the stolen Honda Civic at a red light. They followed the Honda and as the vehicle came to Perrino Place, the suspect pulled to the curb. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop taking the suspect into custody without further incident. The suspect was later transported to the station and questioned by Auto Theft Detectives. There he admitted he knew the Honda was stolen. The suspect was booked for a felony. The Honda was later released to the owner undamaged.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in August 1997at Colonial Honda in Glendale, California.
