The owners of a Nissan Frontier pickup truck contacted the Thornton Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen after having left the vehicle running and unattended “for just a minute.”
A police officer verified the theft and had the vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.
Less than twenty minutes later officers with the Westminster and Federal Heights Police Departments were picking up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.
Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC officers with the Federal Heights PD tracked the Nissan to the 2300 block of 92nd Avenue. There they found the Nissan freshly abandoned by the thief who had no time to use the vehicle in another crime or to strip or damage the truck.
The undamaged Nissan was returned to the grateful owners on-scene but without keys.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Frontier in April 2008 at the request of a previous owner at Ehrlich Motors in Greeley, Colorado.
