The owner of a 2001 Nissan Sentra contacted the Bolingbrook Police Department to report his vehicle had been taken after keys for the vehicle were stolen from his other car during a burglary to an auto. The Bolingbrook PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.
Shortly after the Nissan was activated, a vehicle equipped with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer picked up the audible and directional signal being broadcast from the stolen Sentra. Following the silent LoJack signal the Nissan was tracked to a big box store parking lot where it was believed the stolen vehicle was being used to commit more burglary to autos. An increase in police presence in the mall caused the offenders to abandon the Nissan. The stolen Nissan was found abandoned in a side lot with proceeds from other vehicle burglaries still in the car. Subsequent investigation revealed a store video showing two suspects parking the Nissan and running from it. Police towed the Nissan from the scene for processing and the investigation continues.
Due to LoJack the owner of the Nissan had his vehicle recovered undamaged with the proceeds taken from his other car also recovered. The Nissan was recovered before it could be re-tagged, stripped, or cloned.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Sentra in June 2001 at Mid-City Nissan in Chicago, Illinois.
