The owners of a 2004 GMC Yukon contacted the Houston Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence sometime during the overnight period.
The Houston PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the GMC.
A short while later the air crew from the Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter unit 102 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen GMC with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the air crew tracked the GMC to an apartment complex at Hollister and North Court in Northwest Houston. The air crew then assisted the Houston PD patrol units by directing them to the complex. The GMC was recovered, processed for print evidence and released to the grateful owner, who was not the original owner and was unaware the GMC was equipped with the LoJack® System.
The LoJack® System was installed in the GMC Yukon in April 2004 at Coulter Motors in Tempe, Arizona.
