The owner, a used car lot, of a 2007 BMW X5 contacted the Dallas Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen.  The dealership was burglarized at night and the suspects took the keys and stole nine vehicles off of their lot.  Only this vehicle was equipped with a LoJack® System.

The Dallas PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

Later, the helicopter from the Dallas PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in helicopters.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the helicopter tracked the stolen BMW to a gas station where they observed it parked. The helicopter directed patrol officers to the gas station.  Officers contacted a witness who stated that he had seen a suspect park the stolen BMW and walk into the gas station.  When the suspect returned to the stolen BMW, he could not get it started and walked off.  The witness said that the suspect was a regular at the gas station and knew him by name.  This is an ongoing investigation.  The BMW was recovered in good condition and at the time of this recovery was the only one of the nine stolen vehicles to be recovered.

The LoJack® System was installed in the BMW X5 in February 2007 at Classic BMW in Richardson, Texas.
