The owners of a 2009 Smart Car contacted the Fairfax Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their home in the 6100 block Beachway Drive in Falls Church, Virginia.

The Fairfax PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Smart Car.

A short while later officers from the Fairfax PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Smart Car with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Smart Car to 2900 block Peyton Randolph Drive in Falls Church, Virginia. At that location, officers observed the Smart Car parked and unoccupied. Officers recovered the undamaged Smart Car and notified the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2009 Smart Car in July 2009 at Lindsay Smart Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
