The owner of a Ford Windstar contacted the Winston Salem Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence off Clinard Ave during the night. The Ford van had been parked in the driveway at approximately 8PM and the owner had gone outside just after 10AM to discover the vehicle missing. No witness or suspect information was known at the time of the vehicle theft report.

The Winston Salem PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford van.

A short while later officers of the Winston Salem PD, working with LoJack, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Ford to a wooded area at the end of Southdale Ave. The Ford Windstar was located in the tree line with a 2001 VW Beetle GLS sitting behind. A check of the Beetle revealed it had not been reported stolen at the time of recovering the Ford Windstar but a follow up contact with the Beetle owner would be made to determine if this Beetle was in some way connected to the theft.
The Ford Windstar owner was contacted and asked to come to the recovery site to take possession of the vehicle.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Windstar in September 1998 at Al Packer Ford in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.
