LoJack® System Helps Durham Police Department Recover Stolen Acura TSX

The owner of a 2009 Acura TSX contacted the Durham Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by a known relative. The true vehicle owner/victim had enlisted a cousin with good credit to allow the Acura to be purchased in the cousin’s name. The true owner had made all payments on the Acura and maintained proper insurance while having total control of the vehicle. The cousin had recently wrecked her own vehicle, took the Acura from the owner and made statements she was going to take the Acura out of state for her own use.

The Durham PD conducted an investigation, verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Acura.

A short while later officers from the Durham PD were on routine patrol duties, on the northern city limits of Durham, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Acura with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Acura to a residence off Old Oxford Road and Stanley Road just outside the city limits of Durham. The Acura was found backed into a single family home driveway. Persons at the home stated the suspect had brought the Acura there in an effort to hide the car so the true Acura owner could not find the vehicle. A communication was made with the suspect, she admitted to taking the Acura and she knew a warrant had been drawn for her arrest for the larceny of the vehicle. While not agreeing to surrender that day, the suspect has agreed to turn herself in for the service of the warrant and the setting of a court date after the holiday weekend. The true owner/victim was contacted and came to the recovery address to take possession of her Acura.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Acura TSX in November 2008 at Montgomeryville Acura in Pennsylvania.
