The owner of a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado called the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office to report their vehicle was stolen.  The Valencia County SO verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Shortly after the activation, a vehicle equipped with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet.  Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the Chevrolet was tracked and found to be mobile.  Officers with the Los Lunas Police Department and deputies with the Valencia County SO attempted to initiate a traffic stop with the Chevrolet.  The Chevrolet failed to stop at which time the pursuit was called off in the interest of public safety.

The Chevrolet was tracked to the area of El Cerro Loop and Otero Road along an irrigation channel access road.  The Chevrolet was located and found to be abandoned at the end of the road.  Deputies recovered the Chevrolet and had it towed for safekeeping to be returned to the owner at a later time.
