The owner of a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado called the Albuquerque Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen from their residence. The owner advised his wife’s purse was stolen three days prior and the keys to the Silverado were inside of the purse. The offender returned to the house with the stolen keys and absconded with the Silverado while the owner and his son gave chase on foot. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

A short time after the stolen vehicle entry, a deputy with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the Chevrolet was tracked, observed to be occupied and found to be mobile. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop with the Chevrolet but the driver failed to yield and eluded the deputy. Officers with the New Mexico State Police and Albuquerque PD Auto Theft Detectives picked up the silent LoJack signal and continued the tracking. The Chevrolet was found abandoned in an apartment complex parking lot.
