The owner of a 2015 Mazda Mazda-6 4-door sedan parked their car in their driveway before going to bed. The next morning when they attempted to use it, they discovered their Mazda missing. They contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report their Mazda stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers. While the deputy was preparing their report, the owner advised that there was a spare key left in console in the car parked next to the stolen Mazda. The key appeared to be missing and no one could verify whether that was locked or not.

Shortly after activation, while on routine patrol, a Boynton Beach Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mazda-6 on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The officer began tracking the stolen Mazda by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the 4-door sedan in the 500 block of 2nd Street, where they performed a “felony stop” on the Mazda. The officers apprehended and arrested the driver for Grand Theft Auto. The Mazda was recovered, released to the owner, who responded to the scene, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2015 Mazda Mazda-6 in September 2014 at Royal Palm Beach Mazda in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.
