The owners of a 2006 BMW X3 contacted the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the area of 500 E. Capitol Street SE in Washington, DC.  The District of Columbia Police Radio dispatched a 5th District officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. When the officer was unable to locate the BMW, a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The officer then arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2006 BMW X3.

A short while later, officers from the United States Park Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and helicopter.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the BMW to the 1300 block Valley Place SE in Washington, DC. At this location, officers observed the stolen BMW parked, unoccupied and undamaged.  Officers recovered the BMW and notified the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2006 BMW X3 in November 2005 at BMW of Fairfax in Virginia.
