The owners of a Ford Explorer contacted the Lincoln Park Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their driveway overnight.

The Lincoln Park PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.

Minutes later deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Ford to a remote industrial area of Lincoln Park. It appeared that the suspects had parked it there to “cool off.”

The stolen Ford was impounded and later returned to the owner. Because of the quick recovery the suspects did not have enough time to strip it or use it to commit additional crimes. This matter is to be further investigated by the Wayne County SO.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Explorer in June 2001 at Jack Demmer Ford in Wayne, Michigan.
