The owner of a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer contacted the East Chicago Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from the garage of a casino on the 5200 block of Kennedy, East Chicago, Indiana.  The East Chicago PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevy Trailblazer.

The reply code for the stolen Chevy was picked up by a vehicle equipped with LoJack and the directional and audible signal was tracked to 4100 block of Fillmore Ave in Gary, Indiana, where the Chevy was observed parked on the street.  A surveillance of the Chevy resulted in observing an individual enter stolen vehicle.  The police and National Insurance Crime Bureau investigation into theft on scene revealed the Chevy had been re-tagged with a different vehicle identification number (VIN) which matched the plates currently on the vehicle.  The suspect told police the Chevy had been in her possession for over a year.  A confidential check revealed the true VIN of the Chevy.  The suspect was arrested on scene and the victim’s Chevy was recovered and towed from the scene.  The suspect later admitted knowledge of the stolen Chevy.  The Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana, investigation into this vehicle theft and recovery continues.

The Chevy’s true owner, an Illinois resident, was very grateful to get his vehicle back and admitted he never thought he would see it again.
