The owner of a 2009 Toyota Camry 4-door sedan discovered their car missing. They contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Immediately upon activation, while on routine patrol, a Miami-Dade PD auto theft detective picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camry on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The auto theft detective began tracking the stolen Camry by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The auto theft detective, along with their backup, located the 4-door sedan parked near a warehouse in the 14700 block of N.W. 22nd Court in Opa Locka. The observed a subject loitering in the area. Shortly thereafter, the subject entered the driver’s side door and entered the Camry. At that time, the detectives approached the Camry and apprehended the suspect. The suspect advised the detectives that the Camry belonged to their brother’s child’s mother. The owner was contacted and stated that she did not give anyone permission to drive their Camry. The Camry was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2009 Toyota Camry in March 2009 at Maroone Toyota in Davie, Florida.
