The owners of a used car dealership contacted the Englewood Police Department to report that a Mercedes Benz had been stolen from their lot during the night.  The owners recalled that a man had come to the dealership and was very interested in this Mercedes and had taken it on a test drive.  He left the dealership without buying the Mercedes and shortly thereafter they noticed that the key to the car and the photocopy they had taken of the prospective buyer’s driver’s license was missing.

A police officer verified the theft and had the vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers.  This routine action automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes Benz.

Minutes later officers with the Lakewood Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Mercedes to a mobile home park at 14th and Allison.  The Mercedes had been cold-plated.  The suspect was not on-scene but the license plate being displayed on the Mercedes and the address of the recovery location matched the suspect in the test-drive incident earlier.  This case remains under investigation by the Englewood and Lakewood Police Departments.

The Mercedes was recovered undamaged, was processed for evidence and released to the happy owners.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes Benz 320 in December 2008 by Euro Motorcars Mercedes Benz in Bethesda, Maryland.
