The owner of a 2001 Mercedes CLK430 contacted the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to report his vehicle was stolen as a result of an aggravated assault. The Mercedes owner and a girlfriend had been having an argument during the night about money owed. The girlfriend left the room and is alleged to have returned to the bedroom, then striking the victim on the head with a clothes iron. The girlfriend left the residence driving the Mercedes.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes. A warrant was obtained charging the girlfriend for an assault with a deadly weapon.

A short while later officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Mercedes off Parkton Road to a residential driveway in the 7600 block of Grandview Ridge Drive. Contact was made with the resident concerning the stolen Mercedes. The suspect was found to be the resident and stated she has had the Mercedes since the assault occurred.

The Mercedes was towed and stored until contact could be made with the owner. Disposition of the assault with a deadly weapon charge is pending court action.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes CLK430 in June 2002 at Atlanta Classic Cars in Decatur, Georgia.
