The Pennsylvania State Police Troopers assigned to the Bethlehem Troop were investigating a series of thefts from vehicles when the troopers became aware that the perpetrator(s) apparently entered a 2006 Nissan, discovered the key to the ignition switch and had driven off with the vehicle. The troopers interviewed the Nissan owner and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle with negative results. The troopers prepared a stolen vehicle report and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan Pathfinder.

The highly trained members of the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force monitor any and all stolen vehicle activity within their jurisdiction. The investigators became aware of a stolen vehicle entry by the Pennsylvania State Police in Bethlehem. The investigators proceeded to the area where the troopers were conducting their investigation and offered their assistance. The Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force Investigators are assigned unmarked police vehicles which are equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC). The investigators began an electronic sweep of the area with the PTC’s and soon picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan. The auto theft investigators notified the Pennsylvania State Police regarding their situation and troopers responded. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the investigators tracked the signal to the area of Melton Road in Allen Township where the parked stolen Nissan was observed. The investigators cautiously approached the Nissan and determined that same was unoccupied. The Lehigh County Auto Theft Investigators released the Nissan to the custody of the Pennsylvania State Police who confiscated the vehicle to be processed for physical evidence.
