The owners of a Chevrolet Malibu contacted the Columbus Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence overnight.
The Columbus PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Malibu.

A short while later several agencies in Central Ohio picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Malibu with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office tracked the Malibu to a motel on the far north side of Columbus.

The Malibu was occupied and the driver was arrested without incident. A second suspect was also located and arrested. The stolen Malibu was impounded and later returned to the owner. Both suspects were charged with Receiving Stolen Property-Motor Vehicle. Because of the quick recovery the suspects did not have enough time to strip the Malibu or use it to commit additional crimes.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Malibu in October 2002 by Curry Chevrolet Geo in Scarsdales, New York.
