The owners of a 1997 Honda Accord contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Industry Station to report that their vehicle was stolen from a local swap meet by unknown suspects. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

A short while later a patrol vehicle from City of Industry picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The deputies notified the Sheriff’s Aero Bureau of the LoJack “Hit.”  Air-8 responded from Pico Rivera towards Industry and picked up the signal. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Air-8 tracked the Honda to the South El Monte area and saw a vehicle matching the stolen Honda description parked near Mountain View.  They then observed two female subjects enter the Honda and drive about a block then watched as they exited the vehicle and walked towards a trailer park.  Units from the Temple Station had responded to the area and spotted the two females.  The units detained the two subjects and had one of the deputy’s return back to the Honda and positively confirm the stolen status. The two females were questioned and admitted they had stolen the Honda because they were late for an appointment with their probation officer.  According to the investigating officer, the driver indicated she had been arrested for stealing another vehicle and that was what the appointment was for.  Both suspects were booked for grand theft auto.  The Honda was stored and later released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Accord in May 1999 via Direct Sales.
