The owner of a 2000 Honda CR-V called the Santa Fe Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen. The Santa Fe PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Around an hour after the activation, and approximately 60 miles away from the original theft location, officers and an auto theft detective with the Albuquerque Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol and undercover vehicles. Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the officers determined the Honda was obviously mobile. Officers and the detective tracked the Honda to a service station in the area of Rio Grande and Interstate 40 in the Valley Area Command. The driver was observed attempting to walk away from the stolen Honda but was not successful. The driver was taken into custody for auto theft related charges.

The Honda was recovered and towed from the scene for safekeeping. The Honda will be released back to the owner at a later date.
