The owners of a 2003 Volvo S-40 contacted the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the area of Northeast Washington, DC. The DC Police Radio dispatched a 5th District officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. When the officer was unable to locate the Volvo, a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The officer then arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volvo.

A short while later, flight officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department aviation unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volvo with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their helicopters.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight officers tracked the Volvo to the 3500 block Marechal Court in Clinton, Maryland. Responding ground patrol units, equipped with PTCs in their vehicles, tracked the silent LoJack signal to a garage at a residence in the block. Auto theft detectives from the Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement unit responded to the location. Investigation located the Volvo in the garage with a cover over the vehicle. Investigation is on-going.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2003 Volvo S-40 in April 2003 at Don Beyer Volvo in Falls Church, Virginia.
