The owner of a 2014 Land Rover Range Rover discovered their SUV missing from Cleveland Street and North Ocean Drive. They contacted the Hollywood Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Later, while on routine patrol, an Opa Locka Police Department Lieutenant picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Range Rover on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The officer began tracking the stolen SUV by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the general area where the signal was emanating from. The only place that the signal could be emanating from was one particular bay of warehouses.

From out of nowhere, the renter of the warehouse arrived. After giving a statement to the detective on scene, and signing a “Consent to Search” form, the officers entered the suspect warehouse and located the Land Rover. According to the renter, someone who they knew delivered the SUV on a flatbed tow truck. The known person wanted them to store the SUV because the owner was going out of town and wanted it to be stored in a safe place. The sport utility vehicle was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.
