The owner of a 2015 Atlas-Copco 185 air compressor contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report that their piece of construction equipment was stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Shortly thereafter while on routine patrol a Homestead Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen 185 air compressor on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The officer began tracking the stolen air compressor by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. Simultaneously, an officer from the Miami-Dade PD was tracking the air compressor as well. The officers, along with their backup, located the air compressor in the 1200 block of N.E. 1st Avenue, Homestead, where they observed two subjects working with the piece of construction equipment. The officers arrested the two suspects for Grand Theft. The air compressor was recovered, released to the owner, who responded to the scene, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2015 Atlas-Copco 185 air compressor in August 2015.
