The owner of a 2002 BMW 325 contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

About 88 miles away from the original reported theft, a deputy with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the deputy tracked the stolen BMW leading him to a motel in Espanola. The deputy requested backup assistance prior to contacting the BMW. While waiting for backup, four subjects were inside of the stolen BMW and drove away leaving the motel. Officers from the Espanola Police Department, Santa Clara Tribal Police Department and New Mexico State Police conducted a traffic stop with the stolen BMW safely taking all four subjects into custody. The BMW was recovered, towed from the scene for safe keeping and will be released to the owner at a later date.
