The owners of a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup contacted the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their driveway. They went inside their home and left the keys in the vehicle and the engine running.

The Galveston County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

A short while later officers from the Houston Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet pickup with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Chevrolet to a fast food parking lot near I-10 frontage road and Mercury Drive. As officers approached the Chevrolet it sped away at a high rate of speed. Officers gave chase, chasing the pickup thru a neighborhood into a dead end street. The suspect then rammed the police vehicle and sped away again before pulling into a private drive and surrendering. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Officers recovered several weapons stolen from a home burglary and narcotics paraphernalia inside the pickup. The Chevrolet sustained minor rear damage as a result of backing into the patrol vehicle.
