The owner of a 2008 Ford F150 pickup contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen during a strong armed robbery. The owner advised that he was providing two unknown males a ride to a location in south Phoenix. When the driver stopped at a stop sign, the two male suspects began to beat on the 80 year man. The owner of the Ford was thrown out of the pickup and the two suspects fled in the vehicle.
The Phoenix PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.

Three minutes later the helicopter crew and officers from the Phoenix PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Ford to south Phoenix where it was being driven on city streets.
Officers were able to verify the vehicle and let the helicopter and undercover detectives conduct a mobile surveillance on the stolen Ford pickup. Due to the violence potential, the Phoenix PD Special Assignment Unit responded and assisted with the surveillance. The surveillance lasted over one hour, while the suspects drove around the Phoenix metro area, before the safe attempt could be made to apprehend the suspects. The Ford was boxed in at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street in Phoenix. The four occupants jumped out and fled on foot. Three suspects including the driver were immediately apprehended after a brief scuffle. The fourth suspect was later apprehended after an extensive man hunt.

The stolen Ford was recovered with damage due to a collision during the take down. The Ford was impounded and processed for evidence.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford F150 in August 2010 at Berge Ford in Mesa, Arizona.
