The owner of a Chevrolet Suburban contacted the Lansing Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from the 18500 block of Wildwood Ave in Lansing. The Lansing PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevy Suburban.

Within minutes of the Chevy being reported as stolen, an officer from the Illinois State Police picked up the audible and directional cues being broadcast from the stolen vehicle with the LoJack Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the Illinois State Police tracked the stolen Chevy to the 180 block of W 158th in Harvey, Illinois. The Chevrolet Suburban was discovered behind a house with the Chevrolet true owner’s belongings removed from inside his vehicle and placed inside garbage cans next to his vehicle. The owner of the house didn’t have any idea how the Suburban got behind her house as a different 1997 Chevrolet Suburban, which wasn’t stolen was broken down, in her driveway. Investigation revealed the stolen vehicle was driven in where fence posts were removed between her residence and the abandoned home next door.

The Chevrolet Suburban was towed by the Illinois State Police for investigation. The victim’s vehicle and belongings were recovered on scene. Because of the LoJack tracking system installed in this Suburban the victim recovered his vehicle before it could be stripped or damaged in any way.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Suburban in May 1997 at Champion Chevrolet in Howell, Michigan.
