The owners of a 2004 Mazda RX8 contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from a retail store parking lot while they were inside shopping.
The Harris County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mazda.

A short while later officers from the Houston Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mazda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Mazda to Eastex Freeway and Sam Houston Parkway access road. Officers located the Mazda parked and abandoned on a dirt road nearby. The Mazda was processed for prints and released to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mazda RX8 in December 2003 at Don Ducote Mazda in Harvey, Louisiana.
