The owners of a 2009 Honda CR-V contacted the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen with the keys, from the residence in San Tan Valley by a known suspect. The suspect had made statements that he was going to burn down his girlfriend’s mobile home and then commit suicide by cop.
The Pinal County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Thirty minutes later, officers from the Apache Junction Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the Honda to the area of U.S. 60 and Idaho.

The Apache Junction PD officer lost the signal and advised other agencies in the area. A few minutes later, a trooper with the Arizona Highway Patrol picked up the LoJack signal near Ironwood Road and Gemann Road. The Honda was travelling southbound. The Highway Patrolman followed the Honda and was assisted by additional troopers and Pinal County SD deputies. The stolen Honda was driven to a nearby neighborhood and parked in front of a residence, where police surrounded the vehicle. After a short standoff between the police and the suspect, he was taken into custody without further incident. The Pinal County SD deputies took case disposition and arrested the suspect for the vehicle theft and other felony charges. The Honda was recovered and returned to the owner in good condition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda CR-V in April 2009 at Earnhardt Honda VW in Avondale, Arizona.
