The owners of a Honda Civic contacted the West Valley Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. A police officer verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, this routine action automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

A very short time later officers from the Unified Police Department, West Valley PD and West Jordan Police Department began picking up on the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, officers with the West Jordan PD tracked the Honda to the area of 2000 West & 6200 South and found it parked unattended in a residential driveway.
Officer’s backed off and began watching the Honda in the expectation that the suspects would soon return to the vehicle. Their patience and good tactics were rewarded when after a short time four persons left the house and entered the Honda. They were safely taken into custody by officers.
The follow up investigation by the West Jordan PD officers disclosed that the quartet had methamphetamine, stolen credit cards and stolen checks in their possession (sadly not an uncommon combination of crimes for auto thieves). All were arrested and will be charged with multiple felony counts.

The Honda was recovered in good condition and was returned to the very happy and surprised owners just a few hours after the auto theft was reported.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic 16-years ago in Florida. The device has been dormant for all of these years. It was activated and later de-activated with the police entry and subsequent cancellation of the of the car’s Vehicle Identification Number as “stolen” in the National Crime Information Center computer.
