The owner of a 2009 Cadillac STS contacted the Chicago Police Department to report that her vehicle was stolen from in front of her mother’s residence on the 8500 block of S Cornell in Chicago’s Mary nook neighborhood. The Chicago PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Cadillac.

A short time later a Cook County Sheriff’s Department Police Helicopter picked up the audible and directional cues being broadcast from the stolen Cadillac with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the Cook County SD tracked the stolen Cadillac to the 14700 block of S Justine Ave in Harvey Illinois. An Illinois State Police Trooper, who was near that location and equipped with the LoJack PTC, tracked the Cadillac to its exact location within a salvage yard.  The owner of the yard gave conflicting statements at the time of the Cadillac’s recovery to its time in his lot. The owner further stated that the Cadillac STS had been in his yard for a couple of days although the Cadillac owner stated it had been stolen that morning.  The Illinois State Police and Chicago Major Auto Theft Investigations Unit are both doing follow-up investigations on this Cadillac STS recovery.

Due to the LoJack installed in the 2009 Cadillac STS it was recovered within hours of being reported stolen in a salvage yard. The Cadillac was recovered undamaged before it could be stripped, cloned, or re-tagged and returned to a grateful owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Cadillac STS in April 2012 at CarMax of Hillside, Illinois.
