The owner of a 2011 Scion TC contacted the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence’s driveway on Eagles Landing Drive, northwest of downtown Charlotte.  The owner had left the Scion running and unattended in the driveway while going back into the home to pick up personal belongings.  As the owner began to return to the Scion, two males were seen getting into the driver and front passenger seats, then driving the vehicle away in the direction of Freedom Drive.  While the CMPD officers were taking the stolen vehicle report, the owner/victim began to cry uncontrollably and appeared to have blacked out; requiring medics to transport the victim to the hospital.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Scion.

A short while later officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Scion with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the CMPD officers tracked the Scion to an area near Grayson Park at Wendover Road and Beal St.  The recovery site is in the southeast sector of Charlotte, approximately 12 miles from the owner’s home.

The Scion was processed for latent evidence and held until the owner could take possession.  An investigation continues to identify the suspects.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Scion TC in March 2011 at Toyota of Turnersville in New Jersey.
