The owner of a 2007 Toyota Rav 4 contacted the Philadelphia Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from a parking spot in front of the owner’s residence in West Philadelphia.  The Philadelphia Police Radio dispatched a 19th District uniformed officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and then surveyed the area for the Toyota. When the officer could not locate the Toyota, the officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and arranged to have the stolen vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later officers from the Philadelphia PD South Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the signal to a parking lot assigned to a home improvement store. The officers observed the Toyota with one male seated in the driver’s seat. The officers approached the Toyota and took the male driver into custody. The male was transported to the Philadelphia PD South Detective Division where a detective was assigned to the arrest. The male was charged with violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code related to theft and the Toyota owner was advised that the vehicle had been confiscated and an arrest had been made.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2007 Toyota Rav 4 in November 2006 at the Millennium Superstore in Hempstead, New York.
